Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art that cannot be practised without knowing a minimum number of terms in their original language. Too often, however, one has to notice shortcomings in this regard, which are partly due to a lack of rigour in the learning tools. To remedy this, this lexicon has tried hard to go beyond a simple list of terms in Latin characters.
Christophe Delmotte, 5th dan black belt, has been practising Kyokushin karate since 1984. He is the secretary of the European branch of the International Kyokushin Kaikan Tezuka Group. In addition to practising karate, he is also a civil engineer graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain and is the author of numerous technical books and scientific articles.

Le karaté est un art martial traditionnel du Japon dont la pratique ne peut se concevoir sans la connaissance d’un minimum de termes dans leur langue d’origine. Trop souvent cependant, on doit constater des lacunes en la matière qui sont dues en partie à un manque de rigueur dans les outils d’apprentissage. C’est pour remédier à cela que le présent lexique s’est efforcé d’aller au-delà d’une simple liste de termes en caractères latins.
Christophe Delmotte, ceinture noire 5e dan, pratique le karaté Kyokushin depuis 1984. Il est secrétaire de la branche européenne de l’International Kyokushin Kaikan Tezuka Group. Outre la pratique du karaté, il est également ingénieur civil diplômé de l’Université Catholique de Louvain et est l’auteur de nombreux ouvrages techniques et articles scientifiques.
